Current initiatives

The MIT Energy Initiative identifies critical energy and technology challenges where concentrated effort can catalyze rapid progress in the energy transition. Strategic, focused effort is needed if we are to truly move the needle on decarbonization across the energy sector. To this end, we catalyze focused research on timely topics and technologies. Research in these areas can progress rapidly owing to MIT’s deep expertise in engineering, technology innovation, economics, and energy policy. Focusing on these initiatives alongside our core research areas and education efforts is another way we work with government and industry to advance zero- and low-carbon solutions that could expand access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy while also mitigating climate change.
