Description

Theory and design of hydrofoil and airfoil sections. Lifting and thickness problems. Steady and unsteady cavitation. Lifting line and lifting surface theory with applications to control surfaces, rudders, propellers and wind turbines. Wake adapted propellers. Unsteady propeller and wind turbine thrust and torque. Wind turbine actuator disk theory. Betz limit. Blade element theory. Performance analysis and design of wind turbine rotors. Tidal turbines. Homework projects include the use of standard computer programs.
